• Never eat shark meat or shark fin soup.

Between 100 and 200 millions sharks are killed each year for their fins. The cartilage in the fins is usually shredded and used primarily to provide texture and thickening to shark fin soup, a traditional Chinese soup. Raise awareness about the shark finning is a good way to help save sharks !

•  Do Not Use Shark Products

Obviously a great place to start is by not consuming any shark meat. However, there are more products than just shark meat on the market. Shark cartilage and oils are found in a range of products from beauty items to health nutrition.

So before consuming any product, make sure it does not use any shark materials. By boycotting shark products, you will reduce market demand, causing companies to stop killing sharks to make these products.

– They like to roll their eyes.  And it’s not because they’re annoyed or frustrated. Rather, great white sharks roll their eyes to the back of their heads whenever they attack, so they don’t actually see what they’re attacking, in order to protect their eyes from getting damaged.

They don’t have eyelids, after all, like we do. When someone tries to hurt your eyes, by throwing sand at you, for example, you instinctively close your eyes to protect them, but since great white sharks can’t close their eyes, they roll them back instead.

Most animals they pursue, after all, don’t go down without a fight and during the fight, the great white shark can get hurt. In fact, many great white sharks have scars left behind by their previous attempts at meals. Wounds may heal but if a great white shark is blinded, it will never get its eyesight back and will have a hard time finding food in the future.

– They have to keep moving. Remember Dory’s mantra,  “Just keep swimming”? Well, great white sharks actually have to live by this, literally. This is because great white sharks breathe by a process called ram ventilation.

As they swim along, the water “rams” into their mouths, and they let it out through their gill slits, to extract the oxygen they need. Therefore, if they stop moving, they’ll stop breathing and they will die.

-Tiger sharks are solitary creatures most of the time. They will gather in larger groups during mating season or for the collective feeding when the large prey is available.

-They are migratory species. They travel several thousand miles each year toward warmer waters when temperature of water drops down.

-After internal fertilization (male inserts sperm directly into the female’s body), eggs develop inside the mother’s womb. Pregnancy lasts around 16 months and ends with 20 to 90 baby tiger sharks.

-The pups are not given any care after birth and have to find food on their own, often staying together in order to stay safe.
